The Crown Chakra - The Seat of The Soul

The crown chakra is located at the crown of the head and represents our connection to the Universe, spirituality, the soul and higher consciousness.

Sanskrit name for crown chakra Sahasrara

The concept of the Chakras originates from ancient Indian spiritual traditions. These subtle energy centres are believed to be spinning wheels of energy that run along the spine, with the Crown Chakra positioned at the top of the head. Chakras serve as gateways that regulate the flow of energy throughout the body, influencing our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Thus when one or more of these energy centres is out of balance, we often feel "off" physically, mentally and emotionally.

Identifying Imbalances in the Crown Chakra

Blocked Crown Chakra:

When blocked you may feel disconnected from your spiritual self, a lack of purpose or direction. You may experience either scepticism about spiritual matters or judge others for their spiritual beliefs and practices. You may have a sense of superiority as your ego takes control.

Underactive Crown Chakra:

Having an underactive Crown Chakra can lead to feelings of insignificance, a lack of spiritual connection and closed-mindedness. It might manifest as a lack of inspiration or difficulty in accessing higher consciousness.

Details of how to identify if the Crown Chakra is overactive, underactive, blocked or balanced.

Overactive Crown Chakra:

Feel disconnected from the physical world resulting in you neglecting meeting your basic needs. You may lose interest in food, have poor personal hygiene or have no motivation for work or a career. You are obsessed with spirituality and often escape into higher consciousness.

Balanced Crown Chakra:

When our Crown Chakra is balanced we have a harmonious connection with the universe. There is a deep sense of spirituality, a sense of purpose and meaning to life.

Ways to Bring Balance to the Crown Chakra

  • Meditation and Mindfulness: Engaging in meditation practices helps to quieten the mind, connect with your higher self, and cultivate a sense of spiritual awareness. Mindfulness exercises help centre thoughts and bring focus to the present moment.

  • Yoga and Breathwork: Specific yoga poses and breathwork can stimulate the crown chakra and help us connect with our higher self. Yoga poses include tree pose, lotus pose, corpse pose and backbend. A breathing exercise such as Sahaja Pranayama that involves rhythmic breathing through both nostrils helps to balance the brain's hemispheres.

  • Connect with Nature: Spending time in nature helps ground and reconnect you with the Universal energy. Simply walking barefoot in your garden or meditating outdoors can be deeply beneficial.

  • Energy Healing: Reiki, Crystal Healing, and Sound Healing can all be used to help align your crown chakra. using crystals such as amethyst, clear quartz or selenite can help to cleanse and energise this chakra.
